Project Overview

The Climate Change Mitigation Project (CCMP) endeavors to substantially reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels. It employs novel yet commercially validated technologies to lower the carbon content in heavy crude oil, transforming it into lighter variants enriched with a higher hydrogen-to-carbon ratio. These lighter crudes become the foundational input for re-engineered petrochemical facilities, which are focused on generating ultra-clean, low-carbon, and ultimately carbon-neutral transportation fuels.

The initiative is structured around three pivotal components:

  1. Heavy Sour Crude Decarbonization (HSCD) Initiative: This phase focuses on the application of cutting-edge technologies to decrease the carbon density in heavy sour crude oil, refining it into a lighter crude that boasts a superior hydrogen-to-carbon ratio. The outcome is a feedstock more suited for the subsequent production of cleaner fuels, such as the Low Carbon Aviation Fuel (LCAF), among others.
  2. BioPetro Innovations Hub (BPIH): Positioned at the intersection of biotechnology and petroleum engineering, the BPIH leverages biological processes and innovations to complement and enhance the conversion of crude oil into transportation fuels with significantly reduced carbon footprints.
  3. GreenSynergy Energy Hub (GSEH): This segment concentrates on integrating renewable energy sources and green technologies with traditional petrochemical processes. The goal is to synergize these domains to produce transportation fuels that are not only ultra-clean but also approach carbon neutrality.

Each project phase transitions from proof-of-concept and design to construction and operational stages. These transitions are executed in collaboration with our funding partners, ensuring a comprehensive and meticulous path to realizing the vision of ultra-clean and carbon-neutral transportation fuels. This structured approach addresses the immediate carbon reduction targets and aligns with long-term sustainability and environmental stewardship objectives.
